I've been trying to figure out how to get my wireless driver to work since I installed Linux a month ago because Windows was crapping out on me. I'm new to Linux, so I'm unfamiliar with how to get certain things to work. Any suggestions?

This had worked for me, but haven't figured out yet how to make it permanent.

Open terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T and type the following commands:

It may ask you to input your password after you press enter

The above will disable the N mode on your wireless card and it should start working.

I realize this is an old question, but I just ran into this issue and it took some time to find an answer that worked. For me, I needed to go into the BIOS under 'Advanced' settings and toggle 'Function Key Behavior' to be 'Function Key' instead of 'Multimedia Key'.

Then, when I was back in Linux I could use Fn-F2 to toggle on the wireless network interface. (This is the hardware switch.) At that point everything worked automatically.

Hi Brandon,

Thank you for your interest in using Windows 10 Technical Preview. You seem to have an issue with installing wireless Adapter drivers.

Did you check by installing Windows 8.1 compatible wireless Adapter driver?

Download the “Windows 8.1 compatible wireless Adapter driver”, install on your computer and check if that helps.

Inspiron 15 (3521, Late 2012)

If the above methods do not help, install the “Windows 8.1 compatible wireless Adapter driver” using compatibility mode and check if that helps. Refer to the following link to know more about compatibility mode. The following link information applicable to Windows 10 Technical Preview as well.

Hope this helps. Please do let us know if you need further help.

Hi Brandon,

Working

Apologize for the delay in response.

The issue might be due to “in-compatible device drivers”. Most of the Windows 8 and Windows 8.1compatibe device drives are working correctly on Windows 10 Technical Preview. Only few devices have issue as manufacturer like you are facing the issue to use the device on Windows 10 Technical Preview.

As you have tried to fix the issue by installing device driver using the compatibility mode, I would recommend you to contact computer manufacturer for better help on this issue. Device manufacture may come up with compatible device driver. This might help you in fixing the issue.

Thank you.

Did you check to see if it is enabled in Network Connections? It might have been disabled. Does the Device Manager show a problem with the card? Try updating it in Device Mgr by using Search Online for a driver.

A cheap fix--Buy a small usb network adapter for about $10. Your wireless card might have failed.

Use the ethernet connection to search for a driver.

Windows 10 Technical Preview 10049 build is available to use with few more features. Install new build 10049 and check the issue status.

If the issue still persist, install the device driver using compatibility mode and check the issue status.

Hope this helps you.
