Chrome bookmarks are stored in your browser settings, and you can transfer them to different computers. Your Chrome browser extensions and custom settings also can transfer easily between devices, and moving everything over doesn’t require much effort. To protect your Chrome bookmarks, consider backing them up. A few methods exist to transfer your bookmarks, and both are fairly simple.
Automatic Transfer
If you use Chrome with a Google account, your passwords and browser settings are saved within the account. You can simply install Chrome on the new computer and log in to your Google account to load the preferred browser settings from your old computer. The freshly loaded browser will prompt you to automatically import the settings and bookmarks. This feature makes Chrome have very low-maintenance requirements; its only caveat is that you must have a google account. You can manage these universal settings by accessing the menu in the upper right-hand corner of the Chrome browser. The three vertical dots open the menu with a list of options. Use this menu to open new windows or open an incognito window or to access and edit your bookmarks, extensions and browser settings.
Manual Transfer
Chrome is viable even if you don’t have an attached Google account. You can manually load and store the bookmarks without logging into a Google account and still have the speed and perks of the Chrome browser. To keep your work and personal computers separate, you may want to operate Chrome in this manner. Using your personal settings on a work computer makes you vulnerable to an invasion of privacy on a shared computer. To complete the manual transfer, connect a USB or other external storage device (cloud-based options work as well) to your old computer and complete the following steps:
Access and Backup Chrome Bookmarks
Click the menu or “Customize” and “Control Google Chrome” in the upper right-hand corner of your browser. Click “Bookmarks,” then “Organize. Select “Export Bookmarks to HTML File” and save the bookmark file to your drive.

Open Chrome on your new computer and hook up the external drive with your saved settings. Access the same menu in the upper right-hand corner and navigate to the bookmarks file; then click “Organize” menu options. This time, select “Import Bookmarks to HTML File.” It will prompt you to load a file. Access your drive and select the previously saved file to load your bookmarks.
